Day 4: Launch Day

The fourth day of the academy - Launch Day!

This morning we started with watching the TV documentation from yesterday. Then we made small groups and had to write funny speech bubbles to a comic we got.

Then, in the old group, we did the last preparations for the final launch: We made the last tests and one group suddenly had really huge problems with their object, which was really great before. But they fixed it and now it works for nearly all the groups.

Additionally we finished the posters about the challenge, from nature´s solutions for problems with flights, over our abstractions, to the final devices. Now we have a lot of time because our groups have finished building. Some are still testing the flight, some try to print pictures (it doesn´t work – as usual).

We are all waiting for the launch in an hour.

Finally it was time for the launch.

The other courses came and we were all very excited. Mel and Janina started with a great dialog, abstracted from “Romeo and Juliet”, and then the first group started.

Two flying objects landed in the “zone of doom” but the rest crossed it.

One flying object landed in a tree, but at least all eggs survived.

  1. I'm very cheery that our device even covered a distance of about 25 metres and landed gently as well. The use of much tape and play dough, many straws and kebab sticks made it possible! :D
